NEW member Mark Salmon won Fryston Angling Club’s match on a 28-peg pond at Wholsea Grange Fishery, Holme-on-Spalding Moor, on Sunday.

The first frost of the season had left the grass around the fishery white and frozen which was a bad sign for the anglers.

Many of the carp took to the warmer upper layers of the water when the sun began to shine and had no interest in taking a bait. It left a third of the 18 strong turn out with nothing to bother the scales man with.

Salmon won with 51lb 13oz of good size carp from peg 18. Second was Steve Birch (34lb 7oz) and third Phil Allcock (27lbs).

Section winners were Shaun Lupton and Martin Tattershall with 13lb 13oz and 17lb 10oz respectively.

Dave Lumb won the silver peg draw.

Stuart Fotheringham won Saturday’s open match on Deer Pond at Pollington’s Viking Fishery with 59lb 4oz.

Second was Phil Jennings (47lb 10oz) and third Brotherton’s Phil Morris (38lb 4oz).
