PONTEFRACT and District Golf Club’s Simon Coumbe (pictured) was runner up in the Sheffield Amateur Golf Championship at Hallamshire Golf Club, Sheffield.

It is the blue ribbon event in the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs’ calendar and has a rich history of former winners including current European tour golf star Danny Willett.

Coumbe finished four shots behind winner Nathan Rogers.

In the second round of the match, Coumbe posted a one over par score of 72 for a 144 total which seemed as though it would be a difficult target to beat with rain lashing down.

However, Coumbe had to settle for second place when last year’s Yorkshire Amateur Championship runner-up Rogers navigated his way round the course in magnificent style for a winning total of 140.
