Kye Evans of Pontefract Athletics Club was in outstanding form at the Wakefield Indoor Open Meeting at Thornes Park Athletics Stadium.

Kye won the under 15 boys 50 metres, setting a club record of 6.9 seconds. He also won the long jump competition, producing a personal best of 4.55 metres.

Lewis Schofield also set a club record, finishing second in the under 15 boys 50 metres hurdles in 9.1 seconds. He also recorded 4.15 metres in the long jump. Maria Schofield won the under 13 girls long jump with 3.81 metres and finished equal second in the 50 metres hurdles with 10.1 seconds. She also clocked 8.1 seconds in the 50 metres.

Sam Schofield only had his eighth birthday two weeks before the competition and was competing against some boys two years older. Despite that, he had a memorable debut, finishing third out of 17 in the under 11 boys long jump with an impressive 3.26 metres. He also clocked 8.7 seconds in the 50 metres.

Will Carter won the under 17 men’s long jump with a personal best of 5.20 metres. In the 50 metres he clocked 7.0 seconds and in the 50 metres hurdles he finished in 9.5 seconds. Will Redmond also clocked 7.0 seconds in the under 17 men’s 50 metres and he recorded 4.32 metres in the long jump.

In the under 11 girls age group, Isabelle Stones, making her first appearance in a track and field open meeting, finished second in the 50 metres in 8.7 seconds. She also did 2.57 metres in the long jump. Max Godridge did 8.7 seconds in the under 11 boys 50 metres and 2.61 metres in the long jump.

Cameron Howes was in good form in the under 13 boys long jump, starting the season with a useful leap of 3.82 metres. Cameron clocked 8.1 seconds in the 50 metres and 10.4 seconds in the 50 metres hurdles. Caitlin Howes did 9.3 seconds in the under 11 girls 50 metres and 2.35 metres in the long jump.

Amy Brain produced a personal best of 3.55 metres in the under 13 girls long jump and she also clocked 8.1 seconds in the 50 metres. In the same age group, Macy Wynn clocked 8.6 seconds in the 50 metres and recorded 3.27 metres in the long jump. Cara Middleton did 8.7 seconds in the 50 metres and 3.32 metres in the long jump. Catherine Whitworth did 8.8 seconds in the 50 metres and 3.29 metres in the long jump.

Oliver Scogings clocked 8.3 seconds in the under 13 boys 50 metres and he had a best of 3.00 metres in the long jump. In the under 15 girls age group, Emily Carter clocked 8.6 seconds in the 50 metres and she recorded 2.79 metres in the long jump.

In last Sunday’s Dewsbury 10K road race, Scott Daly was the club’s first finisher in 39 minutes 29 seconds. Michael Flaherty crossed the line in 41-01 and David Kidd finished in 42-36.
