In his first competition since moving up to the under 13 boys age group, Pontefract Athletics Club’s Matthew Tam-McMillan set a club record of 8.90 seconds in the 60 metres sprint at Saturday’s Northern Athletics Indoor Open Meeting at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Matthew also achieved a personal best in the long jump with 4.21 metres.
Isabelle Stones, who has also just moved up to the under 13s age group, was also in excellent form.
Isabelle equalled the Pontefract club record for the 60 metres, clocking the second fastest time of the day with 9.11 seconds.
She was also in outstanding form in the long jump with all three of her valid jumps in excess of four metres. Her best of 4.14 metres placed her second in her age group.
Kye Evans ran well to finish third in the under 17 men’s 150 metres in 18.66 seconds.
In the 60 metres sprint, Kye slipped shortly after the start. This caused him to lose some ground, but he still finished in a creditable 8.17 seconds.
Cameron Howes clocked 8.75 seconds in the under 15 boys 60 metres with Gianni Tam-McMillan finishing in 9.41 seconds.
Will Carter recorded a personal best of 11.38 metres in the under 20 men’s triple jump and he was close to his best in the shot putt with 9.56 metres. Will also clocked 19.48 seconds in the 150 metres.
Richard Howes improved his own club records for men over 50 and over 40 with 10.12 metres in the triple jump. He also clocked 21.11 seconds in the 150 metres.
In Saturday’s Pontefract Park Run, Christine McCarthy finished second in the women’s race in 21 minutes 26 seconds. Scott Daly finished sixth overall out of 168 in 19-17.
