The second ‘Pontefract’s Got Talent Night’ evening meeting on Friday (June 7) gets underway at 6.35pm.
After the concluding race at 9.10pm, 10 local stars of the future will attempt to impress the panel of judges, which includes ‘X-Factor’ finalist Carolynne Poole from Leeds (who will perform a couple of her tracks), Real Radio breakfast show presenter Dixie and local actress and singer Emma Hogg.
The winning act will receive a three-year management contract with Greenleaf Entertainments to hopefully put them on the road to stardom, along with a VIP day out a future Pontefract meeting for them and their family, including hospitality and champagne.
On the track, the Tony Bethell Memorial Handicap Stakes is a race for stayers over two miles and one furlong which commemorates a former chairman of Pontefract racecourse.
This is the third of eight races in the Pontefract Stayers’ Championship, a competition involving races of over two miles at the course during the season, offering bonuses of £3,000 and trophies to the connections of the series’ winner, based on a points system according to wins and places obtained during the series.
Stickleback leads the way with 10 points, followed by Hidden Justice and Kazbow who are both on nine points.
Three-year-old sprinters take part in the Mr Wolf Sprint Handicap Stakes, a contest over six furlongs named after course specialist, Mr Wolf, the winner of eight races at Pontefract.
Constant Security Services, who provide the security staff on racedays at Pontefract and several other racecourses, particularly in Yorkshire, once again support a couple of handicap contests at this evening fixture.
Logic Lettings of Pontefract return for the second year, this time to support a handicap race for sprinters over five furlongs.
The giant screen situated opposite the main stands will assist racegoers in following all of the action.
