Glasshoughton’s Rob Lloyd crowned a magnificent season by winning Castleford and District Crown Green Bowling Association’s Champions of Champions Trophy.

Lloyd had already won the Yorkshire merit competition and Castleford and District Festival gents individual title.

In the Champions of Champions tournament, he overcame team-mate David Thomas in the quarter finals and then defeated Castleford Festival ladies winner Nicola Portman in the semi-finals.

In the final, he beat Mark Harrap (Queens Park) who had beaten Nicola Portman’s mother Karen (ladies merit winner) in the semi-finals and junior champion Charlotte Holmes in the first round.

Results - Quarterfinal: N Portman 21, M Chambers 19; R.Lloyd 21, D Thomas 10; D Harrap 19, K Portman 21; C Holmes 18, M Harrap 21. Semi-finals: N Portman 13, R Lloyd 21; K Portman 18 , M Harrap 21. Final: R Lloyd 21, M Harrap 16.

Meanwhile, Featherstone Indoor Bowls Club have qualified for the Yorkshire Indoor Bowling Association’s Summer League final at York on Saturday (10.30am).

Featherstone will compete against Scarborough and two teams from North Cave in a round robin event.

Featherstone’s team of Peter Bradley, Pat McCafferty, Tony Horobin, Bernard Brotherton, Alan Hampshire and Barry Arstall went all season undefeated to claim their place in the final.

The winter leagues at Featherstone start next Monday (September 9).
