Veteran Marcus Hookham helped Knottingley C beat C Station A 7-3 in Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League.
Because of the absence of two key players, Knottingley’s three-man team comprised 84-year-old team captain Marcus Hookham, B team substitute Alan Yip and regular Robert McNaught.
They took on C Station’s three generations of the Lumb family in grandad Keith, his son Richard and grandson Marc.
Alan won all of his games, each over three sets.
The league’s elder statsman Marcus showed considerable guile and stamina to beat Richard over five gruelling sets.
Marcus lost over four sets to Keith but he beat Marc convincingly over three sets.
Robert beat Marc over four sets, lost to Richard over three sets, albeit closely, and Keith over three close sets, losing by the minimum score in each.
Robert and Alan won the doubles.
