PONTEFRACT’S James Willstrop will compete in the ATCO PSA World Series Squash Finals at London’s Queen’s Club from January 2 to 6.
Willstrop (pictured), Ramy Ashour (Eygpt), Nick Matthew (England) and Gregory Gaultier (France have already qualified and are certain to compete in London, leaving four places still up for grabs in the eight-player event.
Behind the top four, Egyptians Amr Shabana, Karim Darwish and Mohamed El Shorbagy and Englishman Peter Barker could all confirm their places in the World Series Finals line-up with strong performances in Doha in the Qatar PSA World Squash Championships which is the last of the seven World Series events where players can pick up qualifying points for the World Series finals.
Snapping at Barker’s heels are England’s Adrian Grant and Germany’s Simon Rosner, both of whom could play their way into the eight-man line-up. Englishman Daryl Selby and Australian number one Cameron Pilley are also in with a chance of qualifying but both would need to outshine the competition in Doha.
The PSA World Series Squash Finals, which will be televised live on Sky Sports, will also feature the top female performers from all World Series events staged this year.
The eight-woman line-up will be confirmed at the Caymen World Open, which is being held from December 13 to 21 December.
World number one Nicol David will be bidding for a historic fifth title there and, like Egypt’s Raneem El Weleily, David is already assured of a place in the field for London.
