James Willstrop was Pontefract Squash Club’s match-winner as they bagged their first Premier League win of the season by beating London Coolhurst last night (Tuesday).
With the teams locked at 2-2, World Championship semi-finalist Willstrop won the decider against James Earles 3-2.
Earles won the first game 11-8 and the second 11-6 to take a 2-0 lead.
Willstrop edged the third game 11-8 and a titanic fourth 16-14 after saving two match balls before winning the fifth 11-4 to give Pontefract a 3-2 victory.
Pontefract’s other winners were Patrick Rooney and Lewis Doughty.
Rooney beat Adam Auckland 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-5) and Doughty defeated Paddy Harrison by the same score (12-10, 11-7, 11-4).
Pontefract’s Alex Hodgetts lost 3-2 to Nick Sutcliffe (11-5, 11-4, 11-13, 6-11, 6-11) after having a match ball in the third game and Fiona Moverley was beaten 3-2 by Madeline Perry (11-9, 9-11, 13-11, 9-11, 10-12).
