PONTEFRACT’S James Willstrop lost to Gregory Gaultier in the semi-finals of the World Open Squash Championship in Rottterdam last weekend.
The pair recently met in the final of the Qatar Classic in Doha. Gaultier won that match in five sets but the Rotterdam clash finished in three as the Frenchman came out on top 11-6, 11-8, 11-4.
Willstrop (pictured) was well in contention at 4-4 in the first, 4-3 in the second, and 4-2 in the third before Gaultier pulled away in all three.
Gaultier lost to England’s Nick Matthew in the final.
Number four seed Willstrop reached the last 16 by beating Max Lee (Hong Kong) and Shahier Razik (Canada).
He then defeated Marwan El Shorbagy 11-8-,11-3, 11-0 before beating another Egyptian Amr Shabana 11-8, 11-2, 11-13, 11-1 in the quarterfinals.
