YMCA A showed why they are joint leaders in Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League by beating club mates YMCA C 8-2.
Peter Hugill and Rob Connell both won all their games. Peter beat Paul Morris and Nigel Brook easily over three sets each, but lost a set to Guy Rothery whom he beat over four.
Rob beat Paul over three, Nigel over four and Guy Rothery over five after recovering from two sets down.Alan Hanson contributed to the score by beating Paul over five sets, but lost to Nigel over five and Guy over four. The doubles was won easily by Peter and Rob who defeated Nigel and Guy over three.
YMCA D won 6-4 at C Station A.
C Station’s man of the match Keith Lumb beat Ian Instone over five sets having lost the first two. In beating Elana McClements over three he did so by the narrowest of margins of 12-10 in the last two sets. He lost to Paul Dykes closely in the fourth set.
Keith’s son Richard was unable to emulate him. He lost to Paul in the fifth set and to Ian in the third.
Richard was too strong for Elana whom he beat over three.
Rob White also beat Elana in the fifth but only after a close competition. He was comfortably beaten by Paul and Ian over three sets each. They both went on to take the doubles, again over three against Keith and Rob.
YMCA B remained as joint leaders after beating C Station B 8-2.
John Keegan completed a clean sweep over Dave Tennant, Richard Lumb and Rob White, beating them all easily over three sets.
Carl Keegan and Chris Inman both won two games, beating Dave Tennant over three and Rob White, marginally over five and four respectively.
Against Richard Lumb, however, they found a player on form. He beat Chris over four sets and Carl by two points in the fifth. Dave and Rob were swept away in the doubles convincingly by John and son Carl over three.
Knottingley were too good for clubmates Knottingley B, beating them 9-1.
Alan Yip was man of the match, beating Bob Mc Naught, Neil Cooper and Dave Cooper all over three sets.
Paul Meason gave him full support by also winning all his games. He beat Bob over three, but met strong resistance in Neil and Dave, both of whom he beat in the fifth by two points.
Dennis Shaw beat Bob over four and Neil over three, but lost to Dave over three. Alan and Paul won the doubles over four against Bob and Dave.
