YMCA A reach final with dominant display

Unbeaten league leaders YMCA A stayed on course for a league and cup double by reaching the Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League Knockout Cup final with a 5-0 win at Knottingley C.

In the league, YMCA D won 7-3 at C Station B .

C Station’s Richard Lumb, Rob White and Marc Lumb all lost to Phil Cawser and Gordon Cooper but they all beat Elana McClements.

The doubles went to YMCA D by three easy sets.

Knottingley B won 8-2 at C Station A, for whom substitute Richard Lumb lost to Alan Yip, Dennis Shaw and substitute Dave Cooper.

Andy Adams lost to Yip and Cooper but he beat Shaw in an epic match which went to five sets, three of which were won by the minimum of two points.

Keith Lumb beat Shaw over five sets but lost to Yip and Cooper.

Knottingley B notched an 8-2 win at C Station B.

Richard Lumb was C Station’s points scorer.

He beat Neil Cooper and Dennis Shaw but lost to Alan Yip.

Richard’s son Marc lost all his three games as did Rob White.

Marc Lumb and White lost the doubles over four sets to Yip and Shaw.

In the battle for second spot in the table, YMCA B won 8-2 at YMCA E.

YMCA E’s Bailey Pye beat Chris Inman but lost to Graham Wylie and John Keegan.

Daniel Ferguson beat Wylie but lost to Inman and Keegan.

Subsitute John Spedding was unable to add to YMCA E’s score, losing all his three games.

Inman and Keegan defeated Pye and Ferguson in the doubles.

YMCA E collected maxmum points with a 10-0 win over C Station A, for whom captain Keith Lumb was the only player who turned up.

Lumb lost to Paul Morris, over three sets, Bailey Pye four sets and Jamie Rusling over five.

It put YMCA E two points clear of YMCA B in the table.
