Pontefract motocross rider Finn O’Malley is making a big impact in the sport.
The talented nine-year-old recently achieved back to back podium placings in the Garmin Arenacross Indoor Championship Series.
The series started at Belfast before moving on to Birmingham, Liverpool and Sheffield. The forthcoming final is in London.
Finn started riding motocross bikes at the age of just five. He quickly moved onto a KTM 50 and then progressed to a KX 65 at the age of seven when he achieved his first win with the YMSA (Youth Motorcycle Sporting Association).
Finn said: “I have moved onto a KTM 65 now which is quicker and more competitive.
“I prefer the outdoor racing but the Arenacross is more technical. Given the recent weather it makes more sense to race indoors.
Finn started the year with motocross coach Danny Tollet from the National Motocross Academy who worked on techniques and speed.
“I love to leave school on a Friday and head to different tracks until Sunday or even better head to a race meeting,” added Finn.
“I have tried different sports but nothing can compare to the excitement of lining up on race day.
“I train three times a week to improve my fitness and to be able to stay strong for the duration of the race.
“Once the Arenacross Series finishes I will be getting ready for the start of the 2014 season. I’m really looking forward to the season. I’m doing the Red Bull Pro Nationals, and the British Youth Nationals and lots of training in between.”
