Sixty two members of Ackworth Road Runners - the biggest turn out ever - plus four guests tested themselves against the handicapper in the annual Joe Thorpe Memorial Winter Handicap on Sunday.

They raced over a 6.6 mile circuit taking in Hundhill, Carleton and the dreaded Castlesyke Hill.

Three long standing club members finished to the fore, Jonathon Routledge beating his predicted time by one minute, Paul Zywicki by 42 seconds and Karen Ball by 34 seconds.

Fastest around the course was Neil Holt in 41-59 from Mark Mills 42-42 and Craig Tipton 44-54.

Only ten runners suceeded in beating their handicap times.

Afterwards the runners enjoyed refreshments at the Carr Bridge Pavilion, Ackworth, from where the race started.
