Orla McKenna is the first-ever winner of Knottingley Judo Club’s Pete Simpson Cup.
The cup is awarded to mon grades (juniors) on a monthly basisis in recognition of their hard work and commitment.
The award has been introduced in memory of the club’s head coach Pete Simpson who tragically passed away towards the end of 2012.
It gives all members of Knottingley Judo Club the opportunity to reflect on the great work Pete did for the club.
The first award winner was announced by club coaches Phil Taylor and Ian Sidaway.
Orla met all the criteria which the club set out when the cup was first announced.
Mr Taylor said she was a deserved winner.
“The hard work the kids put in is testimony for the effort Pete put in,” added Mr Taylor.
“All our young fighters have the chance to win this cup which is presented on a month by month basis.”
Orla received the award from Pete Simpson’s step daughter Stella Lee.
The club will welcome new junior and senior members on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Knottingley Sports centre.
