CASTLEFORD and Featherstone Rugby League Referees Society held their third annual awards evening at Kings Croft Hotel, Pontefract.
After an excellent meal, the 125 people who attended were entertained by guest speaker Andy Gregory, the former Widnes, Wigan, Warrington, Leeds and Great Britain scrum-half, who spoke about his glittering career.
The MC for the evening was Featherstone Rovers chief executive Craig Poskitt.
The society coffers were boosted by a mini auction and raffle. The main prizes were a hospitality package from Featherstone Rovers donated by commercial manager Paul Taylor and a 12-month gym membership, donated by Peter Todd of the Pontefract Squash and Leisure Centre.
Award winners were:
Junior touch judge of the year: Joe Stearne. Junior referee of the year: Tom Hargreaves. Senior touch judge of the year: Gavin Jefferson. Senior referee of the year: Andy Sweet. Martin Bingley most improved official award: Kenny Walton and Joe Turner. Society member of the year: Bob Stokes.
The society handed life memberships to Martin Bingley for his dedication to the association and to Russell Smith in honour of his outstanding refereeing career both in this country and in Australia.
