FRYSTON Warriors celebrated the most successful season in the club’s history at an awards evening on Saturday.

In their inaugural summer season, Fryston completed the Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division campaign unbeaten, won the top four Grand Final and recorded a clean sweep of trophies by lifting the RFL Tier 4 National Cup.

Head coach Wayne Taylor and assistant Adey Short praised the entire squad and the club’s development in taking on a new challenge with the transition to summer rugby.

Taylor presented Dale Wynn and Lee Land with the coaches player of the year award.

Club stalwarts Wayne Jones and Malcolm Agar presented the other trophies.

Land won the player of the year trophy.

Adam Withington won the Man of Steel and players’ player of the year awards.

The supporters player of the year award, sponsored by the Queens Head pub, went to Dale Cogan and Wayne McHugh.

McHugh also bagged the top try scorer accolade.

Jack Lee and Steven Scott shared the forward of the year award.

Half-backs Wynn and Andy Speak shared the back of the year award. Second-rower Kieran Arundel and winger Jack Taylor shared the young player of the year award.

Ryan Dyson won the clubperson of the year accolade.

A special award went to former Castleford Tigers prop Dean Sampson for services to the game after he played the full summer season at the club.

Jones paid special tribute to the club’s committee and Alan Hardy for their work throughout the season behind the scenes and thanked sponsors Monkhill Sandwich Shop, Mick and Simon Smith, Les at the Queens Head pub, Ian Parker, Trevor Backhouse and Kev Baker. He also thanked Reg Allan and Bernard Rothwell for their work on the club’s playing field and Paula and Julie Edwards for their behind the scenes work on game days. He presented a bouquet of flowers to staunch club helper Annette Jones.
