PONTEFRACT RUFC have struck up a new link with Yorkshire’s biggest rugby union club, Leeds Carnegie.
As part of the understanding Carnegie community manager Adam Blades travelled along with first team stars Ryan Burrows, Mike Myerscough, James Doherty and Pete Lucock to the Pontefract club for the first time last week.
The new link between Leeds and Pontefract was created at a meeting during the summer by Adam and academy manager Mark Luffman along with the Pontefract club committee.
It will see Pontefract benefit from coaching sessions from Adam and the Carnegie players and the Pontefract club will also host an academy game this season.
Adam said: “It’s always great to assist local clubs in Yorkshire in the development of young players and the rugby clubs in general.
“Pontefract is a great example of this with an emerging junior section that we are lending support to with the aim of increasing their playing numbers and enthusing them to become part of the Leeds Carnegie family. Taking the four players to lead on the coaching will certainly go towards meeting these aims.”
