Rovers storm through to Grand Final

KYLE Briggs scored 26 points to steer league winners Featherstone through to the Co-operative Championship Grand Final with a 46-16 victory over Halifax at Bigfellas Stadium.

Briggs bagged three tries of Featherstone's eight tries and landed seven goals from eight kicks as they booked their place in the final at Warrington's Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday, September 26.

Halifax get a second chance to reach the final next Thursday when they host the winners of tomorrow's (Friday) clash between Barrow and Sheffield Eagles.

Sean Penkywicz gave Halifax the lead with a seventh-minute try but Rovers struck three times in a seven-minute spell through skipper Stuart Dickens, centre Liam Welham and winger Tom Saxton to take a grip on the game.

Halifax added other tries through Shad Royston and Rob Worrincy before half-time but scores from Dane Manning and Briggs kept the home side in control.

Leading 28-16 ast the breal, Rovers did well to survive a sustained Halifax onslaught early in the second-half.

Man of the match Liam Finn then increased their lead with a 65th minute try before Briggs added two more touchdowns to complete his hat-trick.
