Award for Lock Lane stalwart Spears

MARK Spears (left) is pictured receiving his long service award for playing 400 National Conference League games for Castleford Lock Lane from the club’s youth chairman Paul Couch.

Spears made his debut in August, 1993, and has played in 400 out of Lane’s 453 games since then. He had a season on professional terms at Hunslet Hawks in 1997-98.

He is joint top scorer in an NCL match with seven tries and has played in 19 different campaigns.

He also has the distinction of having played the most times as an amateur, with 11 appearances, in the professional stage of the Challenge Cup third round.
