Castleford Tigers have been given a boost with news that new signing Ryan Bailey is ready to play and two of their injured first teamers are in contention to return to action against Catalans Dragons this Sunday.
After disappointing displays in two away games the Tigers are looking to get back to their best at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle and head coach Daryl Powell is pleased to have more players to choose from as they aim to avenge an unlucky narrow defeat to the Dragons in France earlier in the season.
Powell looks likely to still be without five senior players and hooker Adam Milner has also been ruled out of the game after picking up a one match ban for a reckless tackle on Wayne Godwin in last Sunday’s 22-20 victory at Salford Red Devils.
But winger Denny Solomona is expected to be available after two months out with a knee injury and back row forward Frankie Mariano is also a possible selection after missing the last two matches.
“We’re getting players back so that should add a little bit more competition for places and it’s obviously important we have people working hard for spots in the team,” Powell told the Express.
“Hopefully that will drive performances so it should be good for us.
“Potentially we could have Denny Solomona and Frankie Mariano available for the game. We’ll check on them through the week, but hopefully they’ll come back into contention.
“There’s a strong chance that Ryan Bailey will also be involved this week.
“He’s looked good in training and fitness wise he’s handled it okay.
“He’s getting used to our plays and our calls. Obviously he’s not been on the field yet and we’ll get an opportunity to see that at the weekend.
“We will be without Adam Milner, who has been suspended. He has been playing well and was pretty good at the weekend, but we’ve got options and Scott Moore will step up.”
