Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell insists that all at the club are still confident of achieving their goal of finishing in the top four and earning a play-off place despite the setback against Catalans Dragons.

The defeat in France left the Tigers with a difficult catch-up job and the toughest possible run-in with all of the top four to play in their remaining games.

But Cas are up for the task according to Powell.

He told the Express: “Everyone is still confident we are capable of making the top four.

“It’s going to be tough, we are playing against the teams that are all above us and three of those games are away.

“You’d obviously say that it’s going to be a really difficult challenge, but that’s what it should be. If you’re going to be in the top four and have a chance of getting to the grand Final you’ve got to be able to deal with these games.

“If you can’t then obviously don’t deserve to be there, We’ve got to prove we do and that will mean it needs to be an outstanding performance.”

Castleford have had more than a week to stew on their disappointing display against Catalans and Powell was unsure whether or not it would benefit his team when they take on Huddersfield Giants tomorrow night.

He said: “You never know if it was good to have a week without a game. Sometimes you want to just play and get back into it, sometimes a bit of a chill after a performance like we had can help you.

“I don’t know, we’ll find out on Thursday I suppose.

“Normally Thursday games are reasonably short turn rounds, but this one we’ve had a little bit of time to prepare for it.”
