SALFORD City Reds groundstaff are "confident" Saturday's opening Stobart Super League game against Castleford Tigers will beat the icy weather.

The new City of Salford Stadium will host its first competitive fixture in a Sky Sports televised game (6pm).

The pitch has been covered by protective sheeting since Monday and will remain covered until less than an hour before kick-off.

The under 20s clash between the two clubs which was scheduled as curtain raiser has been postponed. A new date has yet to be confirmed.

Tigers fans are reminded that official supporters' coaches will leave the Probiz Coliseum at 3pm because of road works on the M62.

The Tigers Bar at the ground will be open from 1pm to enable fans to send off the team. The team bus is scheduled to leave at 2.30pm and head coach Ian Millward will give a speech to those present in the Tigers Bar shortly before the team depart for Salford.
