Pack star Andy Lynch has every incentive to ensure he makes a winning return to the Castleford Tigers team on Sunday.
While every player wants to make a winning start to any new season, for the Tigers’ returning hero the first game could not have been much bigger as he will be facing a Bradford Bulls side for who he played 204 games in a seven-year spell.
In his time with the Bulls Lynch won several player of the year awards and is remembered fondly, but all that will go out of the window as he makes his Super League return for his hometown club – 15 years on from making his original debut for Cas fresh out of the academy in 1999.
Lynch cannot wait to get back into serious action for the Tigers and is excited by the prospect of facing his former club in the 2014 Super League opener.
He said: “It’s great to be up against one of my old clubs straight up and it will be nice to go back.
“It will be a cold start, that’s for sure, it’s always freezing at this time of year over there and it will probably be snowing!
“You’ve got to play everyone at some time of the year so it doesn’t matter where you start, but it will be good for me to play at Bradford. I loved it over there.
“But I’m back with Cas now and will be doing my bit to hopefully make sure we can get the two points.
“It’s going to be a tough game. Bradford have had a lot of adversity so they’ll be looking to come out all firing.
“It’s a massive game for both teams really and vital to get off on the front foot with the two points.
“I can’t wait to get started and I’m probably more excited than I have ever been since I first began playing.”
