Daryl Powell has rested a number of his first team stars as he has rung the changes in his 19-man squad to take on St Helens at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Sunday (kick-off 3:30pm).

Powell is aiming to keep his players fresh for the rest of the season after they came through a second double-header last weekend.

Matt Cook and Adam Milner miss this match through injury, while Luke Gale, Zak Hardaker, Mike McMeeken, Grant Millington and Michael Shenton are all rested. Andy Lynch, Tuoyo Egodo, Kieran Gill, Jy Hitchcox, Will Maher, Luke Million, and Jake Trueman all come into the squad, with four potential club debuts up for grabs.

Powell has made his feelings known about having another double weekend of games so close to the one at Easter

He said: “The RFL are not going to look after the players so I’m going to do it – there’ll be a lot of changes to our team this week.

“We’re hardly halfway through the year and we’ve had two Friday-Monday turnarounds. When you play just one game it takes you a few days to even want to train. We were told we’ve got a six-day turnaround and that it shouldn’t be an issue but to have that after we play Friday and then Monday just is not enough.

“I am looking forward to this game hugely to see how our squad depth deals with what I think will be a highly motivated St Helens team.”

Tickets for the match are available to buy from the Tigers Den club shop in Carlton Lanes and online.
