ACADEMY prospect Dan Fleming has signed his first full-time contract with Castleford Tigers.
The 19-year-old, 6ft 3in, 105kg prop forward has put pen to paper on a two-year full-time contract with the Stobart Super League club after doing well for the under 20s in the Valvoline Cup.
Fleming joined the Tigers from Co-operative Championship club Halifax before the start of last season and has impressed the coaching staff, including head coach Ian Millward.
“We’ll bring Dan into our top squad next season,” said Millward.
“He’s one of those late developers, who’s gradually matured into a big presence. He’s really impressed us in the under 20s this season.
“We’re looking at him as a project to fit in behind our more established front rowers, but also we’re looking at him as one for the future.”
On signing the contract, Fleming said: “I can’t wait to get training full-time with the team.
“I’ve worked really hard to get this opportunity and I’ll be doing all I can to make the most of it.”
Fleming joins fellow academy prospects James Clare, Ben Johnston and Charlie Martin in earning full-time deals in recent months, thanks in many ways to the funds raised by the Tigers Lottery, from which all proceeds are invested into youth development.
Fans can help the club secure more stars of the future by joining for £1 per week with more than £600 won by Tigers Lottery members every week. Supporters can join the Tigers Lottery in the club shop at Carlton Lanes or by calling Sean Empson on 07887 560 394.
