NEW signing James Grehan is set to make his debut for Castleford Tigers on Sunday after being named in a 20-man squad for the pre-season game against York City Knights at the Huntington Stadium.

This will be the fourth consecutive year the Tigers have faced York for the Paul Higgins Memorial Trophy.

They are taking a mainly under 20s team with the addition of Australian Grehan and four players who have been playing in the first team squad in recent pre-season friendlies – Nathan Massey, Jordan Thompson, John Davies and James Clare.

On the game Tigers head of youth development Steve Gill said: “Paul Higgins was a fantastic servant to both clubs in the 80s and it is only fitting that both clubs pay tribute to the Paul Higgins 13 Trust, which was put into place to help develop young Rugby League players around the York and district area.

“York City Knights have paid our young guys the ultimate compliment by announcing a full strength side for this fixture, so we will be really tested before we enter our first league game against Salford the following week.

“It will also be nice to see trialist Aston Wilson and new signing James Grehan in action – both are named in the centres – and also the welcome return of York-based centre/back row Sam Orange, who missed large parts of last year with injuries.

“The lads had a comfortable win last week at Gateshead Thunder where we played six of our under 18s squad, but the bar has been lifted quite considerably for this fixture and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
