For local lad Zak Hardaker winning the League Leaders’ Shield was not a new feeling as he was a previous winner with Leeds Rhinos, but it vindicated his decision to move to Castleford Tigers this year.

When he signed he spoke of winning trophies with the Tigers and this is just the start be believes.

Hardaker said: “It’s one ticked off and we want to get to Old Trafford.

“The club was confident we could achieve something this year and it’s been building year on year.

“In pre-season I was confident then where the team could go.

“At first I think we perhaps surprised ourselves with how good we were and from there we’ve just carried on.

“It’s exciting to be part of this.”

Hardaker was pleased for the fans that the club had finally finished top of the league.

He added: “The fans have waited a lot of years to get some silverware. This is probably more for them than it is for the club and the players.

“It’s just great that we can repay the fans and the faithful fans who have been backing the club for years.

“They say it’s a little town in Wakefield, but I don’t think they can say that any more!”
