TERRY Matterson has been officially announced as the new assistant coach to Neil Henry at North Queensland Cowboys.

Matterson, who is leaving Castleford Tigers after six years as head coach, replaces Michael Crawley, who is taking up a position with the Newcastle Knights. He will start with the Cowboys from November.

Matterson played 166 NRL games for Brisbane Broncos, where he won two Premierships, and Sydney Roosters.

He also represented New South Wales in the 1989 State of Origin Series before having a two-year stint with London Broncos.
