CASTLEFORD Tigers have handed a new two-year contract to 20-year-old Ben Johnston.
Half-back Johnston, who joined the Tigers from amateur club Castleford Lock Lane, played for Co-operative Championship club York City Knights on a dual registration this year before making his Super League debut in August.
The Tigers have also extended the contract of 19-year-old second rower Charlie Martin, who was recently promoted to full-time training for next season.
Castleford chief executive Steve Ferres (pictured) said: “We have a rich source of great young players in the Castleford district and the future of this club is in developing this talent through our youth development scheme.
“Johnston and Martin are perfect examples of this. Both have shown great potential over the past year and we hope to see even more from them in 2013.”
