CASTLEFORD’S new coach Ian Millward made a winning start with a six-try victory over Bradford Bulls in the Boxing Day pre-season game at Probiz Coliseum.

New signing Josh Griffin (pictured) and youngster Josh Atkinson each scored two tries as the Tigers recovered from a shaky start to beat a more experienced Bradford side 28-18 in front of a crowd of 3,296.

Bradford had most of the early play and scored first through Jason Crookes but the introduction of hooker Daryl Clark swung the game Castleford’s way.

First-half tries by Griffin and utility back Atkinson gave Millward’s men a 10-4 half-time lead.

Atkinson and Griffin both added further tries in the second half while another new signing, ex-Leigh prop Steve Nash, and young scrum-half Ben Johnson also touched down.

Bradford’s other try scorers were Chev Walker, Bryn Hargreaves and Shaun Ainscough.
