Castleford Tigers Supporters Club celebrated 90 years of the town’s rugby league team when they held their annual dinner dance at Greywood Hall.

At the event sponsored by Greywood Hall the CTSC made their latest presentation of money raised through the year with a cheque for £3,000 handed over to head coach Daryl Powell.

This took the total of money raised by the supporters since 2004 past the £75,000 mark with 2016 donations topping £8,000..

Special guests at the dinner dance, along with Daryl Powell, were Castleford legend Alan Hardisty, Tigers chief executive Steve Gill, captain Michael Shenton and club video analyst Richard Stead.

All took part in brief interviews that followed the meal .

A raffle and auction followed with prizes donated by Steve Gill, Dave Bowman, the CTSC committee and members.

CTSC secretary Paul Burns-Williamson thanked everyone who had supported the supporters club over the last 12 years, through two relegations and some tough years.

He said: “We have kept the faith and supported the club. Your support has kept us going, you all can be very proud of what we have raised and donated to the club.

“The latest donation will be used for the club’s pre-season camp at La Santa, in Lanzarote. We had asked Daryl Powell what would benefit the team and he said that a donation to the warm weather camp would help the most, the camp being the most important part of the pre-season preparation.

“On behalf of the CTSC Committee I thank everyone who attended the evening. We raised a brilliant £1,103 on the night. Thanks to Gilly, Grant Ackroyd and all the staff at the Greywood Hall for a fantastic evening.”

The next supporters club event to take place is the 2017 membership launch evening on Tuesday, December 13 at the Glassblowers, Bank Street, Castleford.

The event will be sponsored by Kamikaze Clothing, 111 Carlton Street, Castleford and it will be free entry with everyone welcome and Cas players in attendance.

There will be a Tombola, for which items are required and can be dropped off at the Tigers Den, Carlton Lanes.

Membership cards for 2017 will be available on the night and the CTSC looks forward to seeing old and new members.
