Castleford Tigers have agreed a new partnership arrangement with Championship One club York City Knights.
The agreement has been confirmed in a joint statement by the two clubs.
Part of the new agreement will see the two teams face each other in a pre-season friendly at Castleford on Sunday, January 19 (1pm kick-off) when they will compete for the Paul Higgins Memorial Trophy.
The two clubs already have coaching links.
York boss Gary Thornton spent three years as Castleford academy coach and Tigers head coach Daryl Powell is a former coaching consultant at Huntington Stadium.
Commenting on the partnership, Tigers chief executive Steve Gill said: “York City Knights are a club who share a lot of our own philosophies on the game so we are delighted to announce this link.
“Daryl Powell felt very strongly about whom he wanted the club to partner with and I believe we now have an excellent partner club who we can share thoughts with while also exploring the opportunities to utilise the dual-registration system to the benefit of both clubs.
“We have a strong relationship with York because of our links with Gary Thornton who is somebody held in very high regard here, and of course Daryl was previously involved with the Knights.”
