Head coach Daryl Powell has declared himself delighted with the recruitment made by Castleford Tigers ahead of the 2017 season.

Zak Hardaker, Greg Eden and Jesse Sene-Lefao are the high profile signings with Tuoyo Egodo and Daniel Igbinedion brought in with an eye on the future and Rangi Chase and Larne Patrick also additions to the initial 2016 squad.

With skipper Michael Shenton, Ben Roberts and Ash Robson all expected to be fit again for the start of the 2017 campaign after missing almost all of the last season the Tigers look to have put together their strongest squad for some time and Powell reckons there should be plenty for Cas fans to be excited about.

He told the Express: “I’m really happy with the recruitment and there’s a real excitement about the place.

“It’s like having a few new players in the squad anyway because of players like Michael Shenton, Ben Roberts and Ash Robson missing such huge parts of last season.

“Greg Eden is getting better by the day, Zak Hardaker has fitted in superbly well and I’ve been really impressed with Jesse Sene-Lefao. He arrived and went into training last week and made a good impact.”

Powell is pleased to have a “good mix” of experienced players and youngsters with big potential in his squad.

He said: “Some of the young guys are finding their feet with training that’s obviously a step up from what they’ve been used to, but they are working hard.

“There’s a lot of potential within our team as well as a really good mix of high quality players in all positions.

“It’s a very good squad. I’m exceptionally pleased with what we’ve got and I’m excited at the challenges that are in front of us.

“We’re always talking about where we want to be. That’s probably for a little bit of time down the track, but we are looking to be successful.

“We’ve been a strong team in and around the top four for the last three years and we want to take the next step.

“We wanted to last year and didn’t manage it for different reasons. This year it’s next step time for us.

“There will be a lot of challenges for us, but this squad when you look at it has a whole heap of potential in it.

“There are certainly some things we want to improve on, but fans will be excited to come and see this team take the field.”
