Castleford Tigers under 19s made it a double over local rivals Leeds Rhinos when they ran out comfortable 40-16 winners over their under 19s at Stanningley ARLFC.

The young Tigers blitzed their local rivals and were 22-0 up by half-time. The Rhinos never recovered from the opening 40 minutes and it was just a matter of counting down the minutes for Castleford.

It is the second time that the Tigers under 19s have beaten Leeds this year after beating them 40-28 down at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle earlier this season.

Castleford scored their first try as Kieran Gill broke through the Rhinos defence and his pass to Declan Sheehan allowed the winger to stroll untouched over the line.

Tom Holmes made the score 12-0 as he stepped one Rhinos defender and reached out to dot the ball on the line to score. Brandon Pickup then scored from short range to extend the Tigers lead.

Then with half time approaching, Ash Robson jumped out of dummy half and broke through the Leeds defensive line. Backing him up was Conor Fitzsimmons, who carried the ball 40 metres to touch down under the posts and give Castleford a 22-0 half time lead.

Castleford start the second-half just like the first as Robson capitalised on a Rhinos error as their winger dropped a high bomb. Robson was on the spot to scoop and score.

The Rhinos got on the scoreboard as hooker Ben Brady burrowed his way over from short range from dummy-half and Tommy Brierley found a gap in the Tigers defence to race over.

But Sheehan ended any hopes they had of a comeback as he found space out wide and raced 60 metres down the sideline leaving a number of Rhinos players chasing dust to score.

The Tigers then scored a quick-fire double. First Russ Barton finished a well worked move in the corner after taking a pass from Aiden Ineson. Then Will Plimmer powered his way over after taking an offload from Holmes.

There was just enough time for Brady to grab another try for Leeds, but the game had been over for a long time.
