Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell wants his players to develop a big game mentality with massive matches all the way now to the end of the season.
Results last weekend put the Tigers on target for a top two finish in the First Utility Super League and victories in their final two games in the regular season will now guarantee second place – or could even see Castleford pip St Helens for the leaders shield.
With so much at stake the matches at home to Wakefield Wildcats this Sunday and away to Catalan Dragons the following week have taken on a huge significance and Powell hopes his team can take the opportunity they have created for themselves.
He told the Express: “We’ve got another big game in front of us with Wakefield, but they’re all big games now, every week.
“We have to develop that big game mentality, there’s no other way about it, we’ve just got to go and be tough and aggressive and be as good as we can be for the rest of the season. We’ve got an opportunity here that we should be really relishing.
“We’ve got two dangerous teams in front of us now. Wakefield are playing really well, as their result last weekend shows, then we go to France. But the opportunity in front of us nobody would have given us a hope in hell of having a chance of at the start of the year.
“I’m really pleased we are in such a great position and how good we are and how tough we can be will decide eventually where we finish up.”
