The Castleford and Featherstone ARL David Poulter Open Cup final between Chequerfield Rangers and Methley Royals, which was scheduled to be played tomorrow evening (Wednesday), has been postponed.

The match, which was to have been played at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle home of Castleford Tigers, is off because recent heavy rain has left the pitch in a heavy condition and under water in places.

Castleford are to host an academy international between Great Britain and France on Friday and also have an under 16s fixture with Leeds scheduled for Thursday.

In the circumstances, the Tigers had no option other than to call of the district cup final.

Castleford and Featherstone ARL chairman Phil Hodgson said: “It’s a great shame that the match cannot go ahead as planned. The Tigers, however, obviously had no other option, given the state of the pitch after unusual weather for the time of year, and the fact that an international match is due to take place only two days later.

“We are grateful for their help and understanding, and hope to be able to announce a new date in the very near future.”
