LEZIGNAN star Nathan Wynn says he can’t wait to take to the field against Featherstone Rovers in Saturday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth round game at Bigfellas Stadium (6.30pm).

Australian scrum-half Wynn played against Rovers regularly during a two-year spell with Toulouse Olympique and he is excited to get the opportunity to face Featherstone again with his new club as he aims to help Lezignan progress beyond the fourth round for the first time in their history.

“We’re all looking forward to the game against Featherstone and it’s going to be a good challenge,” said Wynn.

“They’re one of the top teams in the Championship and a sort of benchmark side for any team with aspirations. That’s a great marker for us.

“I’ve gone up against Rovers a few times before and I know they’re good all round the park and they don’t really have any weaknesses but if we can hold our ground against them in the forwards I think we can set ourselves up with a good chance.

“We know we can beat any team on our day and we will play for the full 80 minutes in every game so even if we go behind in a fixture we know we have the persistence to come back.”

Having recently won the French Cup after securing top spot in the Elite One Championship, Lezignan will go into the game in buoyant mood and Wynn believes this side are used to a winning mentality.

“We won the French Cup a few weeks ago and we finished the season top of our league so everyone’s full of confidence,” he said.

“I’m really enjoying my time with Lezignan. There’s a very professional approach to the game here and the club has a winning mentality and everyone involved is full of confidence and I’ve fitted in very well so far.

“The journey is the hard part for us. It’s hard to prepare for it but the club have ambitions to get into the Championship so this sort of journey is one that everyone needs to get used to and we turned up a few weeks ago against Whitehaven and played very well against them so we know we can do it.

“Personally I’m very excited to be playing in England again against a crowd that will be very hostile but I enjoy the experience and I can’t wait.”
