FEATHERSTONE Rovers moved back to the top of the Co-operative Championship by completing their home league campaign in style with a 54-24 win against lowly Dewsbury Rams at Bigfellas Stadium on Sunday.
Despite playing their second game in four days, Rovers finished the stronger side as they stretched their unbeaten league run to a club record 17 matches.
They were only 32-24 ahead with 23 minutes left but they ran in four late tries to finish comfortable winners and climb above Leigh Centurions on points difference with a match in hand.
Man of the match Tony Tonks grabbed two tries in eight minutes in the closing stages and also set up a last minute touchdown for Ian Hardman.
Dewsbury took the lead after only four minutes through a James Craven try but Rovers led 28-6 at the break after Ben Cockayne, Matty Dale, Jon Grayshon, Ross Divorty and Jon Hepworth all crossed.
Patrick Walker, Luke Blake and Michael Wainwright scored in Dewsbury’s second-half fightback before Rovers sealed victory with Dale and Cockayne both adding their second touchdowns and Tonks bagging his double.
Liam Finn converted seven of Featherstone’s 10 tries.
Featherstone’s remaining two league matches are at Sheffield Eagles next Sunday and at Widnes Vikings on September 4.
