Linpac Packaging's vice president of marketing and innovation Joanna Stephenson and the company's managing director Graeme Robinson (second left) finalise the new sponsorship deal with Rovers chief executive Craig Poskitt (second right) and commercial manager Paul Taylor.

Linpac Packaging will be Featherstone Rovers’ new main shirt sponsor next season.

In a return to the iconic Rovers playing kits of the 1980s, the company’s name will once again be on the front of the home and away shirt as well as replicas.

Linpac, which employs more than 300 people at their Featherstone site, first appeared on the Rovers shirt in the 1981-1982 season in Rugby League’s first-ever sponsorship deal and they were the club’s main sponsor until 1989.

They linked up with Rovers again this year when the company’s name appeared on the playing shorts.

The new sponsorship deal strengthens their commercial partnership with Rovers and includes tickets for Linpac Packaging employees, pitch side perimeter advertising, hospitality and the opportunity for Featherstone Rovers to be actively promoted at the Linpac site.

Rovers commercial manager Paul Taylor, who instigated the deal, said: “We are extremely proud to announce that Linpac have strengthened their commitment to the club in 2014. The Linpac brand on the front of the Featherstone Rovers shirt is one of the iconic commercial deals in the history of sport in the UK and fondly remembered.

“I am sure supporters and the town of Featherstone will be excited to see one of the major employers in the town and a cornerstone of the local economy supporting the club in this way once again.

“I look forward to working with Linpac Packaging in 2014 and would like to thank Graeme Robinson, Joanna Stephenson and Barbara Laing of Linpac Packaging for their support.

“ We would also like to thank Probiz who relinquished their position on the shirt and encouraged the club to attract further new investment.”

Featherstone is Linpac Packaging’s global headquarters. The company is Europe’s leading multi-national packaging manufacturer for the meat and fish, bakery, fresh produce, fast-food and catering industries.

Graeme Robinson, managing director of Linpac Packaging UK and Ireland, said: “We have been proud to support Featherstone Rovers during the 2013 season and are very pleased to continue our sponsorship deal with Rovers.

“Both Rovers and ourselves share a passionate commitment to the success and development of the local area and we are looking forward to the 2014 season with great anticipation.”

Rovers chief executive Craig Poskitt said: “We were thrilled when Linpac became a commercial partner once again in 2013 after more than 20 years away from the club.

“Their increased support and commitment to the club is testament to all the hard work we are doing behind the scenes at Rovers. This is a tremendous boost to our Super League aspirations and we look forward to our players once again having the truly global Linpac brand on the front of their shirts once again.”
