DARREN Payne will join Featherstone Rovers next month as community manager after spending the last five years as events manager at Castleford Tigers.
His role will include promoting the club’s rebranded lottery. He will also deliver themed assemblies at local schools and assist with junior coaching.
Darren (pictured), who was also events manager at Wakefield Wildcats for four years and spent two seasons at York City Knights, said: “I’m really looking forward to starting my role at Featherstone Rovers. It’s an exciting new challenge for me and I would like to thank Craig Poskitt (Rovers chief executive) for giving me the opportunity of joining a forward thinking club.
“Head of community development Laurabeth Jaggar and the community department at Featherstone Rovers do a fantastic job and I’m positive I can make a great contribution to the delivery of the important community programmes that are already in place.
“I would like to thank all the officials, players and supporters of Castleford Tigers who have been brilliant for the five years I’ve been there. This is a great opportunity for me and I’m also looking forward to getting my teeth into promoting the re-branded lottery and working with the local business community along with commercial manager Paul Taylor. The club has a really positive feel to it and has true aspirations of returning to top flight rugby league.”
Rovers chief executive Craig Poskitt said: “I’m delighted that Darren has decided to join our growing club. Darren is experienced in the world of rugby league and I’m looking forward to December when he officially joins the club. Darren will be a valuable asset for not just club but the community of Featherstone and will make significant contribution to our Destination Super League campaign.
“Darren’s appointment will enable our head of community development Laurabeth Jaggar to concentrate on sourcing and applying for grant funding which we have a very high success rate. The Foundation has increased turnover in the last 12 months by 85 per cent which means we can invest further in the business to mirror that remarkable growth.”
