FEATHERSTONE Rovers have signed hooker or half back Kirk Netherton (pictured) from Widnes Vikings on loan until the end of the season.

Hull based Netherton, 25, has had spells with Castleford Tigers and Hull KR.

He was one of four players recently told they would not have a future at Widnes,

Netherton was cup tied and unavailable for Featherstone’s Carnegie Challenge Cup game against FC XIII Lezignan last Saturday.

However, he is in contention to make his Rovers debut in this Sunday’s Co-Operative Championship clash against Halifax at Bigfellas Stadium.

Rovers coach Daryl Powell said: “Kirk will add some different aspects to our game. He’s a fine left footed kicker which is a rare commodity and valuable in any team’s kicking variety. He also has the ability to score tries from near the line. Kirk will add real options and variety to our squad.”
