COACH Daryl Powell says Featherstone’s Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round tie against holders Wigan is a “fantastic draw for the club.”
Featherstone’s reward for beating neighbours Castleford last weekend was a plum tie against the star-studded Warriors at Bigfellas Stadium on Friday, April 27 (8pm).
For the second round running, Featherstone’s tie has been selected to be shown live on Sky TV.
Powell (pictured) said: “We are going to have to play exceptionally well to challenge the cup holders.
“All round it should be another magnificent day for the club. I think Wigan will bring a lot of people across - they are well supported away from home.
“I also think it will whet the appetite of the Featherstone fans so it should be another outstanding day for us all. Wigan have international players in nearly every position and they are a significant threat.
“Obviously, Sam Tomkins is a pinnacle for them in terms of the way he plays the game. He is a special player and he scored six tries last weekend.
“To keep him in check you’ve got to have a pretty good plan in place and we’ll have to work exceptionally hard to minimise the threat Wigan pose across the whole of the field.
“I think our players will relish playing Wigan. They will recognise it’s going to be a difficult challenge for us but we are standing up to challenges at the moment. It was an outstanding effort from 1 to 17 last weekend and we know we are going to need to do it again.
“We set ourselves a standard defensively against Castleford and I thought we played a smart game as well so we’ll get a lot from that and from a confidence point of view we are only going to grow.”
Rovers are advising supporters to pre-purchase tickets to avoid queuing on the night for Wigan’s first match at Featherstone for nearly 20 years.
Ticket prices for the Featherstone-Wigan tie are standing £16 adults, £10 concessions and £5 juniors and seating £18 adults, £12 concessions and £7 juniors.
As with the Castleford game, junior season ticket holders must obtain a ticket for the match.

They will remain on sale exclusively to season ticket holders tomorrow (Friday) from 9am to noon.
