FEATHERSTONE Rovers skipper Stuart Dickens (pictured) is set to make his 400th first-team appearance for the club in Sunday’s Co-operative Championship match at Dewsbury Rams.
Dickens made his Featherstone debut in a 31-26 win against Widnes at Post Office Road on March 15, 1998.
Apart from a brief spell with Salford in Super League in 2005, he has spent his entire career with Rovers and needs 41 more appearances to draw level with Jim Denton, the club’s all-time leader for games played, a record that has stood unbroken for 78 years. Denton played for Featherstone from 1921 to 1934.
Dickens said: “I suppose it is an achievement considering the position I play in, but the time to think and reflect on these things about these things will be when I hang my boots up.
“It’s all about the here and now as far as I’m concerned and about the team.
“ If I play on Sunday, the number of games I’ve played in the past won’t be part of my thinking at all. Being at Rovers is a big part of my life in more ways than the number of games I’ve played, although naturally I’m very proud to have turned out for such a great club.”
