Featherstone Rovers crashed to a shock 24-16 defeat against York City Knights in this afternoon’s Kingstone Press Championship game at Huntington Stadium.

After suffering their first away league defeat for two years in their previous match at Sheffield Eagles, Rovers slipped up again after trailing 18-4 at one stage.

Ben Hellewell’s 12th minute try put them ahead but York hit back with three converted tries in eight minutes.

Matt Nicholson’s touchdown that Simon Brown goaled sparked the scoring burst.

Former Rovers player Nat Browne then bagged two quick tries on his York debut, both goaled by another ex-Featherstone player Tom Carr, to put the Knights 14 points up.

Rovers replied three minutes before half-time when Greg Worthington went over and early in the second-half they cut the gap to two points when Andy Bostock crossed and skipper Liam Finn kicked his second goal.

But Rovers were rocked again five minutes later when substitute Kristian Brining scored York’s fourth try and Carr added his third goal to put them 24-16 ahead and the home side retained their advantage until the end.
