FEATHERSTONE Rovers have signed hooker James Davey (pictured) from neighbours Wakefield Wildcats.

The 21-year-old-old former Wildcats academy player has joined Rovers on dual registration from the Super League club.

Davey, who made six Super League apppearances for Wakefield last season, has been snapped up following Kyle Briggs’s recent departure to Bradford Bulls.

Rovers coach Daryl Powell said: “James is quick and has the ability and confidence to take on the defensive line and break it. He has good defensive qualities and he did a good job at Wakefield. He fits neatly into Andy Kain’s role enabling Andy to operate at stand-off.

“The situation is fluid, and he might well be recalled into the Wakefield squad, but we need the sort of player that James is and we hope we can keep him, eventually on a Rovers contract.”

Powell is also looking to sign a stand-off.

He said: “I am also working pretty hard on signing a number six as well. I don’t think it will happen in the short term but that’s what I am looking at.”
