FEATHERSTONE Rovers half-back Liam Finn (pictured) has been named Ireland player of the year.

It caps an outstanding season for Ireland captain Finn who set a new world record for most consecutive successful goal kicks and also set new Featherstone Rovers individual records for most goals and points in a season.

Finn kicked five goals as Ireland kicked off their European Cup campaign with a 30-18 win over Scotland last weekend.

Melbourne Storm and Australia captain Cameron Smith has been named the 2012 international player of the year – the highest individual honour in world rugby league.

Smith, who was also named international hooker of the year, is one of eight Australians to be named in the international team of the year.

England duo Ryan Hall of Leeds Rhinos (winger of the year) and Canterbury Bulldogs forward James Graham (prop of the year) are the only non-Australian players to be selected in the international team of the year.
