CHAMPIONSHIP title-winners Featherstone Rovers play Super League champions Leeds Rhinos in Rob Burrow’s testimonial match at Headingley Carnegie on Friday, January 20 (8pm kick-off).

Leeds scrum-half Burrow (pictured), who started his rugby career at amateur club Featherstone Lions, said: “I am delighted to be playing Featherstone and I would really like to thank Mark Campbell and Daryl Powell for agreeing to come to Headingley Carnegie and playing the Rhinos.

“I owe a special thank you to the Leeds Rhinos directors and our head coach Brian McDermott, who have agreed to the game as part of our pre-season preparations.

“Although I am from Castleford, a friend took me a long to Featherstone Juniors, as the Lions were called then, and that is where I first started playing the game.

“I have never played against Featherstone in the first team and, having played my whole career for Leeds, it is nice to face them in my testimonial game.

“There are a lot of great coincidences with the game. Both teams are coming into the game having won their respective competitions last year and Daryl Powell gave me my first start at the Rhinos back in 2001.

“I am good mates with Featherstone player Jonny Hepworth from our time in the Leeds Academy so it will be nice to have him involved in my testimonial game as he was here when it all began for me.

Leeds head coach Brian McDermott says the Featherstone game will play a big part in his side’s preparations for the start of the new 2012 season.

He said: “Rob has been a tremendous servant to Leeds Rhinos down the years and richly deserves his testimonial. The game against Featherstone will be our main match before the start of the season and is likely to include our international players who will miss out in Boxing Day game against Wakefield.

“I am sure the fans will turn out in large numbers to support Rob, he is a real fans favourite and hopefully it will be a great night for him.”

Tickets are £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and just £5 for juniors which is for all areas of the ground, whether seating or standing.

Fans can pay on the night at the turnstile.

Hospitality packages are also available including a two course meal and seating tickets for £45 per person. To book call 0113 2033222. All proceeds go to the Rob Burrow Testimonial Fund.
