FEATHERSTONE’S 100 per cent league record this season was wrecked by Saturday’s surprise 60-40 home defeat against Sheffield Eagles.

Champions Rovers scored seven tries but conceded 11 with sloppy play against the team they trounced 40-4 in last season’s Grand Final.

They were 16-0 down before Greg Worthington (pictured) grabbed their first touchdown.

Sheffield took full advantage of intercepts and other Featherstone mistakes to lead 44-16 in the second-half before Rovers suddenly sprung to life and cut the deficit to just four points.

At 44-40 behind with 17 minutes left, Featherstone looked set to collect at least a bonus point but it all went dreadfully wrong for them again in the closing stages.

Andy Kain's two tries were in vain for Rovers. Worthington, Matty Dale, Tangi Ropati, Tommy Saxton and Michael Haley also crossed and Liam Finn kicked six goals.

For Sheffield, Misi Taulapapa bagged three tries and Quentin Togagae two.

Their other try scorers were Scott Turner, Neville Morrison, Menzie Yere, Alex Szostak, Joe Hirst and Dane McDonald. Simon Brown landed three goals and Dominic Brambani five.
