Former Batley, Hunslet and Castleford scrum-half Tony Dean has died at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer.

Dean played for Batley, Hunslet, home town club Castleford and Hull FC before joining Wakefield Trinity’s coaching staff in 1985 as Len Casey’s assistant.

Trinity went on to secure promotion from the Second Division and Dean also coached the club’s A team to a Yorkshire Cup final win over Hull A in the 1985-86 season.

Dean’s funeral service will take place on Friday, August 1 at 1pm in St Cuthbert’s Church in Ackworth, followed by a cremation at Pontefract Crematorium. Mourners are then invited to celebrate Tony’s life and career at the Frog and Moose, Wakefield Road, Ackworth.
